A cat-and-flower feature wall for an Auburn Bay kids room
The homeowners had already painted this Auburn Bay bedroom a soft blush and wanted one wall to carry the whole personality of the room. The paper they chose is a dense, small-scale print – ginger and grey cats sitting among roses, daisies and cornflowers on a white ground – and it runs the full wall, corner to corner and floor to ceiling. A busy repeat like this is unforgiving: the pattern is the ruler, so every seam either disappears or announces itself.

Project challenge
A dense repeat with strong silhouettes hides nothing. Every drop has to land on pattern within a fraction of an inch or the eye reads a step in the row of cats straight away. The wall is wide enough to need several drops, it carries outlets that fall mid-bloom, and it terminates against painted blush corners on both sides – so the first and last drops have to be cut to a true vertical against a wall that was never guaranteed plumb.
Our solution
We measured the repeat and set the drop sequence so the pattern lands balanced across the wall rather than dying in a sliver at one corner, then struck a plumb line to hang the first drop against instead of trusting the corner. Seams were butted and rolled so the print carries through them, outlet openings were traced and cut in place so the cover plates sit inside the pattern, and the bottom edge was trimmed to a straight line along the baseboard the full width of the room.
Reading the seams from an angle
A busy pattern is judged from the side, in raking light – that is where drift, lifted seams and a wandering baseline show up.

Surface review
Painted drywall checked and prepared so the paper bonded evenly – on a white-ground print, any bump or patch under the surface reads through as a shadow.
Installation focus
Plumb-line start, balanced drop layout, butted and rolled seams, and outlet cutouts traced in place so nothing interrupts the run of the pattern.
Result
One wall that does all the decorating in the room – the blush paint, white trim and carpet now read as a deliberate scheme built around the print.

Small busy repeats are the hardest patterns to hang well and the most rewarding when they are right. Our installation standards page shows the seam and pattern-match quality to expect.
