A dark floral mural for a Canmore dressing room
A dressing room is seen from a step away, every day, in full light – which is exactly why it rewards a dramatic paper and punishes an imperfect seam. This Canmore condo dressing room was wrapped in a custom-printed floral mural – blush peonies, chrysanthemums and dahlias on a near-black ground – set against deep plum walls, white built-in shelving and a skylight overhead. Mural panels are printed as one continuous image, so every panel joint has to land exactly or the flowers themselves show the error.

Project challenge
Mural panels are not a repeating pattern – each panel is one slice of a single oversized image, so there is no repeat to hide in. The blooms had to be placed so the hero flowers land in the sightlines rather than dying behind shelving or into a corner, the panel joints had to disappear inside the dark ground, and the skylight above rakes daylight straight down the wall – the least forgiving light a seam can face.
Our solution
We planned the panel layout from the focal wall first, centring the largest peony cluster at eye level and letting the composition run outward, then sequenced the panels so joints fall through the dark foliage where the eye cannot pick them up. Panels were double-cut and rolled tight, edges trimmed clean to the built-ins, casing and ceiling line, and the plum-painted adjacent surfaces give every termination a crisp, deliberate edge.
Against the built-ins and the plum walls
The room works because the mural, the paint and the millwork read as one composition – here is how they meet.

Surface review
Walls were primed and sealed before hanging so the non-woven mural panels bonded evenly on the dark ground and can come down cleanly years from now without damaging the drywall.
Installation focus
Panel layout planned from the focal wall so the hero blooms land at eye level, joints double-cut through dark foliage, and every edge trimmed in place against shelving, casing and the ceiling line.
Result
A jewel-box dressing room – the mural, plum paint and white built-ins reading as one designed composition in a compact Bow Valley condo.
