Frosted privacy film for a street-facing bathroom window

This Collingwood bathroom sits at the front of the house, and its window looks straight out at the sidewalk and street. Clear glass meant anyone walking past had a direct line into the room, and blinds solved it only by blocking the light along with the view. The goal was permanent privacy that would not cost the room its daylight.

Project challenge

Bathrooms need the strongest privacy in the house, and this window faced the street directly. Reflective films were not the right answer here – their mirror effect reverses after dark, exactly when a lit bathroom is most visible. The room also relied on this single window for its natural light, so blacking it out was off the table.

Installed solution

Dusted Crystal frosted film was installed across both panes, trimmed edge to edge inside the frames. The frost is a permanent matte finish on the glass itself: it blocks the view through completely, in daylight and at night with the lights on, while letting the window keep pushing soft, diffused daylight into the room. The blinds are now optional rather than mandatory.

Before And After

After: the frost reads as etched glass, and the room keeps its daylight.

Privacy need

A bathroom window facing the street needs full two-way privacy around the clock – not a finish that works in daylight but fails when the room is lit at night.

Installation focus

Clean glass preparation, edge-to-edge coverage on both panes, and tidy trim lines inside the frames so the frost reads as factory-etched glass.

Result

Complete privacy with the daylight kept. The window now works as a bright, soft light panel, and the blinds no longer have to stay down.

Planning Note

Why frosted film is the right call for bathrooms

Frosted film is the standard answer for bathroom glass because it is the one privacy finish that does not depend on lighting conditions. It suits any window where the glass position is right but the visibility is not.

Check the night behaviour

Reflective privacy films flip after dark – the mirror side follows the brighter side of the glass. Frost does not flip; it blocks the view in both directions at all hours.

Cover the full pane

Partial-height frost bands work in offices, but street-level bathrooms usually call for edge-to-edge coverage on every operable pane.

Keep the daylight

Dusted Crystal passes most visible light through as soft diffusion, so a small bathroom stays bright without a clear view in.
