Frosted privacy film for a round window that faced the street
This Highland Park bathroom has a feature most rooms do not: a large round window with a four-pane grille, set at eye level above the vanity. It is the best-looking thing in the room, and it looked straight down onto the street, the sidewalk and the house opposite. Clear glass meant the sightline ran both ways, and the shape ruled out an ordinary blind. The brief was full bathroom privacy without covering the window up.

Project challenge
A bathroom needs the strongest privacy in the house, and this window sits on the street side of the home at standing height. A reflective film was the wrong tool: its mirror effect follows the brighter side of the glass, so it flips after dark, exactly when a lit bathroom is on display. A blind or shade would have hidden the round frame that makes the room. And the shape itself is the installation problem – there is no straight edge to trim to, so the film has to be cut and fitted to the curve of the frame cleanly enough that the edge disappears.
Installed solution
Frosted privacy film was fitted to the glass on the room side, cut to follow the circle of the frame. The frost is a permanent matte, etched-glass finish: it blocks the view through completely, in daylight and at night with the lights on, while passing almost all of the daylight as soft diffusion. The divided-lite grille still shows through the frost, so the window keeps its character; it simply no longer shows the street, and the street no longer sees the bathroom.
Before And After
The same window, before and after the frost
Both photos are taken from inside the bathroom. The before photo shows the clear glass and the direct view down onto the street, with a neighbouring house and a parked car in frame. The after photo shows the frosted finish across the full circle.

Privacy need
A street-facing bathroom window at standing height needs full two-way privacy around the clock – a finish that holds when the room is lit at night, not just in daylight.
Installation focus
Clean glass preparation, then a curved cut fitted to the round frame so the frost edge disappears into the surround and the finish reads as factory-etched glass.
Result
Complete privacy with the daylight kept and the feature window still on show. No blind, no shade, nothing to open or close.
Planning Note
Why frosted film suits shaped and feature windows
Round, arched and other shaped windows are usually chosen to be seen, which is why blinds sit badly on them. Frosted film keeps the shape and the light while removing the view, and it is the one privacy finish that does not depend on lighting conditions.
Check the night behaviour
Reflective privacy films flip after dark – the mirror side follows the brighter side of the glass. Frost does not flip; it blocks the view in both directions at all hours.
Shaped glass is a cutting job
Circles and arches have no straight edge to trim against. The film is cut to the curve on the glass, so the quality of the edge is the whole job – ask to see a shaped install before you book one.
Keep the daylight
Frosted film passes most visible light through as soft diffusion, so a small bathroom stays bright without a clear view in.
