A mural feature wall in Winston Heights
This Winston Heights, NE Calgary bedroom needed one wall to carry the whole room. The owners chose an oversized watercolour peony mural — soft whites and slate blues on a distressed, plaster-look ground — for the wall behind the bed. Mural prints are unforgiving: the artwork spans every panel, so any misalignment or crooked cut shows up in the middle of a flower rather than hiding in a repeat.

Project challenge
Two things make this install harder than a repeating-pattern room. First, the sloped ceiling: the top edge is a long diagonal cut across the most visible part of the artwork, and it has to track the ceiling line exactly. Second, panel alignment: on a mural, every seam is a join in a single painting — the petals and leaf veins have to flow across panels without a step or colour break.
Installed solution
The wall was prepped and primed for a clean, even surface, the mural panels were dry-laid and sequenced first, then hung with the artwork aligned across every seam. Edges were finished with sharp cuts along the slope, the baseboard, and both corners, and the outlets were cut in cleanly mid-print. The result reads as one painted wall, not panels of paper.
