A backyard-facing great room that got too hot to sit in
This Silverado home opens onto its backyard through a wall of tall main-floor windows, with the great room taking the full afternoon sun. The light and the view were the whole reason the room existed, so blinds were never the answer. The owners wanted the heat and glare gone without giving up the glass. The fix was XPEL Night Vision 37 solar film, applied across the great room and the main-floor windows that face the yard.

Project challenge
Backyard-facing great rooms are glare magnets. The tall windows collect direct afternoon sun, so the room heated up and the light washed out screens and seating right when the family wanted to use it. The owners were clear that blinds and heavy tint were both off the table. The glass had to stay clear enough to keep the view and the daylight.
Installed solution
XPEL Night Vision 37 solar film went onto the great room and the main-floor windows facing the yard. It is a neutral, low-reflectivity film that rejects a large share of solar heat and blocks over 99 percent of UV, cutting glare while keeping the room bright. The 37 refers to its light neutral shade, enough to calm the glare and add daytime privacy from outside without darkening the room.

Why XPEL Night Vision 37
Night Vision is XPEL’s neutral solar line, chosen here for heat and glare control with a natural look and no mirror finish.
Heat and glare
The film rejects a large share of the sun’s heat energy and softens the harsh afternoon glare, so the great room stays usable through the hottest part of the day.
UV and fade protection
Over 99 percent of UV is blocked, protecting flooring, furniture, and artwork in a room that takes direct sun for hours.
Neutral, not mirrored
A light neutral shade with low reflectivity keeps the glass looking like glass, adds daytime privacy from the yard, and avoids the mirror look of cheaper films.

Planning Note
Solar film for sunny great rooms
Backyard- and west-facing great rooms are the most common solar film request in SW Calgary, and the shade choice is where most decisions get made.
Pick the shade for the room
A neutral film like Night Vision 37 keeps the view and daylight while calming glare. Go clearer to keep it bright, or a touch darker for more privacy and glare control.
Film the sun-facing glass
West- and south-facing windows take the most direct sun and return the biggest comfort difference, so they are the place to start if a project is phased.
Send a photo of the wall
A photo of the full window wall and the direction it faces lets us confirm the right film, the heat rejection, and the price in advance.
