Back to a blank canvas

Not every wall project ends with new paper going up. This Inverness homeowner wanted the upstairs bedroom simply returned to smooth painted walls – the dated wallpaper gone, the surface underneath made good, and a fresh neutral coat throughout. The finish line for a removal job is a wall that shows no history: no seam ghosts, no adhesive sheen, no gouges telegraphing through the paint. This job is our wallpaper removal service in Calgary with no new paper afterwards: strip, wash, repair and repaint in one upstairs bedroom.

Project challenge

Wallpaper never comes off politely. Pulled dry, it takes the drywall face with it; soaked carelessly, the water finds every joint and screw head. What stays behind is worse than what comes off – a film of adhesive that flashes glossy patches through any paint applied over it. And because the same walls run past a window, a closet surround and the door casing, every repair has to disappear in raking daylight, not just under one photo flash.

Our solution

We stripped the paper in stages – face layer first, then the backing soaked and lifted – washed the adhesive residue down to clean drywall, and repaired the surface where the removal or the original hanging had left damage. Primed and repainted in a warm neutral, the room now reads as if the wallpaper was never there, which is exactly the standard a removal should meet.

The walls after – smooth past closet, corners and doorway

These stills are from the finished-room walkthrough video: the same walls that carried wallpaper now hold an even painted finish through their hardest angles.

Removal first

Face and backing stripped in stages, adhesive washed to bare drywall – paint over residue is the most common DIY removal failure we get called to fix.

Surface repair

Gouges, lifted paper face and old imperfections repaired and sanded so nothing telegraphs through the new paint in window light.

Result

A bedroom back to a clean painted baseline – ready to stay minimal, or to take a properly hung paper down the road.

Removal, repaint – or removal before new paper

The same strip-and-prep discipline sits under our replacement work – see the Deer Run removal and installation where new paper followed the strip, and the full wallpaper removal service for how we quote it.
