Glass offices, without the fishbowl

Full-height glass office fronts are the default in Calgary’s downtown towers – they carry daylight from the perimeter offices deep into the interior corridors. The trade-off is that everyone walking that corridor sees every screen, whiteboard and meeting. This tenant wanted the glass to keep doing its lighting job while the offices behind it stopped being on display.

Project challenge

An occupied office is the hardest install environment there is. The film has to go on around working desks and booked meeting rooms, on butt-joined glass where every seam lines up with a silicone joint, and it has to look factory-etched – a corridor of glass panels shows every trapped particle and misaligned edge in raking fluorescent light. Blinds or opaque panels would have solved the privacy problem by killing the borrowed light, which is exactly what the tenant did not want.

Our solution

We installed an etched-look frosted film across the office-front glazing – full panels on the sidelites and partition glass, with the transom glass above left clear so the corridor keeps its share of daylight. The film reads as sandblasted glass from both sides: silhouettes and light pass, screens and paperwork do not. Panels were trimmed edge-to-edge at each joint so the run reads as continuous frosted glass rather than applied film.

Down the corridor – both sides, every office front

The same treatment carries past every door: frosted panels on the glazing, clear glass above, and the wood doors breaking the run.

Privacy that keeps the light

Frosted film diffuses the view from both directions while daylight keeps moving through the suite – the reason glass fronts were specified in the first place.

Occupied-office install

Panel-by-panel work around desks and meetings – clean prep, contained water and squeegee work, offices back in use as each section finished.

Reversible, spec-friendly

Film delivers the sandblasted-glass look at a fraction of replacement-glass cost, and it comes off clean at lease end if the next tenant wants clear glass back.

Frosted film across offices, clinics and storefronts

The same etched-look films carry logos, gradients and custom-cut patterns as well as full panels – see the branded frosted office glass in Inglewood and the Vecova community hub install, or the full frosted & etched film service for options and pricing.
