Shower privacy without replacing the glass

This Heritage Pointe ensuite — in the lake community south of Calgary — had a beautiful clear-glass shower enclosure with one problem: no privacy at all. The owners wanted the modesty of factory-etched glass without ordering new panels for a finished, marble-tiled bathroom. Frosted privacy film on the existing glass delivered exactly that, in an afternoon, at a fraction of replacement cost.

Finished shower enclosure with frosted privacy film band across the door and side panel in a marble ensuite in Heritage Pointe
The finished enclosure: a continuous frost band across the door and side panel, with a clear reveal above so the shower keeps its light and height.

Project challenge

Shower glass is the least forgiving surface for film: the frost band has to sit dead level across two separate panels — a fixed panel and a swinging door — and any misalignment shows as a step at the gap. The glass also carries hardware, and a wet-area install has to bond cleanly so daily water exposure never lifts an edge.

Installed solution

The frost line was set with a laser across both panels, the film was cut to each pane with the handle and hinge hardware cut in cleanly, and the band was finished with the small even edge reveal the inspection standard calls for. The result reads as factory-etched glass — privacy through the band, light through the clear reveal above.

Glass review

Tempered enclosure panels in new condition — film bonds to the smooth face without affecting the tempered glass, and frost-grade film carries no thermal load concern indoors.

Installation focus

A dead-level laser line across two independent panels, clean hardware cut-ins, and edge discipline on glass that gets wet every day.

Result

Factory-etched privacy at a fraction of glass replacement cost, reversible by design, finished in a single visit to an occupied home.

Planning privacy for shower or interior glass

Frosted film works on shower enclosures, interior partitions, sidelights, and any glass where you want light without the view — and unlike replacement glass, the pattern or band height can be changed later.
