Whether you have already booked or are still comparing installers, here is exactly how a professional window film installation goes in Calgary: how to prepare the room, what we bring, how long the work takes, what is normal while the film cures, and what you leave with when we are done.
Before we arrive: a five-minute prep
Clear the glass
Two to three feet of working space at each window: sill plants, décor, and small furniture moved aside. We bring drop sheets for everything that stays.
Window coverings
Raise blinds fully and tie back drapes. If a covering has to come down for access, tell us at quoting and we plan it into the visit.
Kids and pets
Freshly applied film is wet and easy to mark. A closed door between curious hands or paws and the work area for the day is all it takes.
Condos and commercial
If your building needs an elevator booking, insurance certificate, or after-hours window, we handle the paperwork — just connect us with the manager. Board approval guidance is here.

Who shows up, and what we bring
Our installers arrive with everything the job needs: drop sheets, filtered water and slip solution, and professional cutting and finishing tools. We are WCB-covered and carry $5M in commercial liability insurance — certificates available to your building manager on request. You will get a confirmation of the film and panes in scope before any film touches glass.
The installation, step by step
1. Protect the area
Drop sheets under every window in scope; sills and frames protected where needed.
2. Deep-clean the glass
The unglamorous majority of the job. Edges are scraped and washed, the pane cleaned to bare glass, and dust controlled — most film failures trace back to prep, so this is where the time goes.
3. Precision-cut the film
Film is cut to each pane with a small, even edge gap. That thin reveal at the frame is deliberate — it lets installation moisture escape and is part of the published standard, not a defect.
4. Wet application
The pane and film are sprayed with slip solution — mostly water with a mild soap, low odour, no fumes — the film is positioned, then squeegeed from the centre out to bond it and push the water to the edges.
5. Edge detail and dry-down
Edges are finished, excess water is picked up, and sills and floors are dried and cleared.
6. Walkthrough together
We inspect the work with you from normal viewing distance against the published inspection standard, and walk through what will change as the film cures.
How long it takes
| Scope | Typical time on site |
|---|---|
| A few panes — bathroom, front door sidelights, one bedroom | 1–2 hours |
| Main floor of a home, or an office front | Half a day |
| Whole home, storefront, or multi-room office | A full day, occasionally two |
| Large commercial projects | Quoted per project; after-hours and weekend scheduling available |
High glass, stairwells, and scaffold access add time — we flag that at quoting, never on the day. See how we handled tall glass with scaffold access in Rosscarrock (10 high exterior windows), Silverado and a two-storey arched foyer in Douglasdale.
Time on site from our own jobs
These are the published scopes of real jobs, so you can compare them with yours. They are not a promise for a different home or office: pane size, access and old-film removal change the time.
| Job | Time on site |
|---|---|
| Residential window tinting, SE Calgary | Installed in 30 minutes |
| Privacy film on three openings (entry sidelights, bathroom window, garage window), Legacy | One visit |
| Frosted film on the living-area windows and bathroom glass, Mahogany | One visit |
| 32 office windows, including removal of the old privacy film, Beltline | 2 days |

The first weeks: what is normal while film cures
Right after installation, light haze and small water pockets under the film are normal and expected — that is residual installation water evaporating through the film, not a problem with the install. Cure takes days to weeks depending on film type, sun exposure, and season; winter installs cure more slowly. Judge the result the way the industry does: from six feet back, in daylight, looking through the glass. The full cure-time table by film type is on the inspection standards page — and if something still looks wrong after the cure window, that is exactly what the warranty is for.
Aftercare: the short version
- Do not clean the film for 30 days — let it cure undisturbed
- After that, a soft cloth or rubber squeegee with an ammonia-free cleaner is all it needs
- No razors, abrasives, or scouring pads on the filmed surface
- No stickers or suction cups on the filmed side of the glass
- Do not press on bubbles while curing — they leave on their own
What you leave with
Keep your invoice and completion record as your warranty proof. Our installations carry our workmanship warranty (1 year residential, 2 years commercial). Film coverage, where it exists, is manufacturer-provided, set and administered by the manufacturer under its own written terms, and not a Wall Style Innovations warranty, as stated on your quote. The full written statement — including how glass breakage and seal failure are handled, and the documented exclusions — is on our warranty page.
Installation day questions, answered
Do I need to be home during the installation?
We need someone at the start to confirm scope and access, and at the end for the walkthrough. In between, you are free to work or run errands — many commercial installs happen with nobody but us on site.
Can window film be installed in winter?
Yes. Architectural film installs on the inside of the glass, so we install year-round in Calgary. The only difference is cure time — cold, low-sun months slow evaporation, which the cure-time table accounts for.
Is the wet application messy or smelly?
The slip solution is mostly water with a mild soap — low odour, no fumes, safe around kids and pets in the next room. Drop sheets catch the drips and we dry everything down before we leave.
Are bubbles right after installation normal?
Yes — small water bubbles and light haze in the first weeks are residual installation water evaporating, and the industry inspection standard explicitly treats them as normal during cure. Bubbles that remain obtrusive after your film’s cure window are worth a call.
When can I clean my windows?
Wait 30 days, then clean with a soft cloth or rubber squeegee and an ammonia-free cleaner. Ammonia and abrasives can damage film and are excluded from warranty coverage.
Do you install after hours for offices and retail?
Yes — evenings and weekends are routine for commercial work, so your business does not stop for a film install.
